LİSTAG (Association of Families and Friends of LGBTI+ in Turkey) is an association for support and solidarity established by parents of lgbt youth and families whose children or relatives are LGBTI+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex +).
We, as parents of lgbt youth, dream of a future where all people have equal citizenship rights, where their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression are recognised, freely expressed and respected without discrimination.
In order to realise this vision, we continue to work in the following areas.
We SUPPORT LGBTI+ families and relatives by informing them.
We provide CONSULTANCY to both our members and other civil society organisations, companies and institutions. They are mostly about specific problems and challenges faced by LGBTI+ persons.
As Listag, we also advocate for the necessary laws to be made and implemented, policies to be formulated, awareness to be raised in our society on this issue and a change in attitudes to achieve full equality for LGBTI+ persons.
In 2008, as a few LGBTI+ parents in Istanbul, we came together for solidarity. We became stronger as we shared and became informed. As we travelled alongside our children in their struggle for rights, we realised that this struggle was as much ours as it was theirs. Our number increased day by day. We were not limited to Istanbul, we tried to bring families together in other cities such as Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, Denizli. We officially became an association in May 2019.
Our Documentary “My Child”
In 2013, we shared all this journey in our documentary film “Benim Çocuğum” (My Child). “Benim Çocuğum” is a documentary film directed by Can Candan, in which seven families from LISTAG tell the stories of their difficult processes and their stories of supporting their children. Since 2013, the film has reached thousands of families and can be watched online, and has been screened in many channels such as universities, non-governmental organisations and the private sector.
